FDF Sponsor Transatlantic journey

First Degree Fitness is excited to announce a partnership with Row2Recovery to help Team Trident complete their Transatlantic journey.

Row2Recovery aims to show the extraordinary things people with disabilities can achieve, and to inspire people with life-altering injuries to reach their potential. This December, the fourth Row2Recovery team will compete in the Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Race and row more than 4,800km across the Atlantic from La Gomera, in the Canary Islands, to Antigua, in the Caribbean. Team Trident will be the first pair with a disabled veteran to complete the journey, which has been described as one of the toughest endurance challenges on the planet.

Jon Armstrong and Jordan Beecher are the rowers from Team Trident. Jon is a Captain in the British Army and has served in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He describes himself as an amateur adventurer, having cycled 4,800km across America and completed a 1,600km expedition in the Canadian High Arctic. Jordan also served the British Army in Afghanistan, where he lost one of his legs after stepping on an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). Since then he has made an inspirational recovery, rowing for Team GB, winning four gold medals at the Invictus Games and becoming a UK indoor rowing champion.

During the Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Race, the pair will live in a seven-metre boat containing everything they need to survive. They will row continuously in two-hour shifts for between 40-90 days.

Row2Recovery will donate all funds raised to three charities, which focus on making prosthetics, ex-servicemen support, rebuilding Nepal after the 2015 earthquake and helping children with a disability or severe illness achieve their dreams. These charities are Dreamflight, Blesma and the Gurkha Welfare Trust.

In addition to sponsorship funding, First Degree Fitness has donated two Viking Pro water resistance rowing machines to support Jon and Jordan’s training program in the months leading up to the challenge. We look forward to sharing regular training updates from the guys as they build their stamina and strength.

Look out for our indoor rowers, which will be showcased at The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst open day on 18 June and the Henley Rowing Regatta from 19 June-2 July. We will also be involved with community outreach with local schools on 6-7 June and the Grainger Group community outreach program on 19 July.
